FAQs
What is SolvEasy used for?
SolvEasy is a topical antifungal medication used to treat athlete's foot, specifically known as tinea pedis. It helps clear the fungal infection and in doing so, helps relieve symptoms such as itchiness.
What is tinea pedis?
Tinea pedis, also known as athlete's foot, is a fungal infection that occurs on the feet. It typically occurs between the toes but can spread to other parts of the feet and toenails. Symptoms include itching, redness, peeling, cracking, and sometimes blisters. It's generally treatable with topical antifungal creams such as SolvEasy, and good foot hygiene can prevent it from recurring.
What's the active ingredient in SolvEasy?
Its active ingredient, terbinafine hydrochloride, kills the fungus causing the infection and stops its growth. Terbinafine hydrochloride is a fat-soluble (lipophilic) compound from the allylamine group of antifungals that inhibits fungal growth. It also binds to the skin, helping to fight the infection even after the last application.
How does terbinafine hydrochloride work against fungal infections?
It works by stopping the fungus from producing ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane. Without ergosterol, the cell membrane becomes weak and damaged, causing the fungal cell to die. This makes terbinafine hydrochloride effective in preventing the spread of fungal infections and aiding in its clearance.
What are the differences in the formulations offered within SolvEasy?
SolvEasy offers three formulations for tinea treatment: cream, gel, and spray. The cream is thick and soothing, making it ideal for dry, scaly areas. The gel is lighter, non-greasy, dries quickly, and has a cooling effect on the skin. The spray is easy to apply, especially to hard-to-reach areas like between the toes or around nails, and dries quickly without feeling sticky. Each formulation is effective, but the best choice depends on your preference and the area being treated.
Where can I apply SolvEasy?
You can use SolvEasy on areas of your skin affected by athlete's foot, including the feet and between the toes. It should be applied to clean, dry affected areas once daily for a week. If the infection is on the sole of your foot, apply daily for 2 to 4 weeks.
How often do I apply SolvEasy?
Apply SolvEasy once daily for 7 days. If the infection is on the sole of your foot, use for 2 to 4 weeks. SolvEasy binds to the skin and keeps working even after you're done applying it. Do not use soap on the affected area, as it may further irritate your skin so use a soap alternative.
How long does SolvEasy take to work?
You may see improvement over a few days of use, but it's important to continue applying the product for the full recommended duration to ensure the infection is fully treated. If you stop using SolvEasy too early, you may not remove all the fungi from the affected areas, and the infection may return. See your doctor or pharmacist if there is no improvement within 2 weeks of starting the treatment.
