Ego Pharmaceuticals had some very special visitors on Thursday the 22nd of June, with Shahd and her carer Moira Kelly AO coming in to meet the team and see where Shahd’s favourite product, QV Bath Oil, comes from. Shahd, originally from Gaza in the Middle East, is the only child living in Australia with an incredibly rare genetic condition, Harlequin Ichthyosis, where children are born with large plates of thick skin that crack and split apart. The condition requires an intensive and meticulous skincare regime and Moira says QV Bath oil it’s the only thing they have found that gives her relief.
Moira herself is an incredibly exceptional woman, having devoted her whole life to humanitarian work helping sick and needy children around the world in places like India, Africa and the Middle East. Currently caring for a household of 17 adults and children here in Melbourne, Moira has helped over 120 children come to Australia for treatment of a variety of critical conditions, including open heart surgery, bowel reconstruction, plastic surgery and new prosthetic limbs. Shahd is just one of the many children whose life has been changed by Moira.
It was inspiring and heart-warming to see Shahd happy, smiling and dancing, supported by Moira’s love. Moira’s care has given Shahd the opportunity to access the medical treatment she needs and is now attending school two days a week, with a view to increasing this soon. All of Moira’s work is funded through donations and Ego is proud to support Shahd by donating all the QV she needs to take care of her skin on an ongoing basis.
