At this years Melbourne March for Melanoma, there were hundreds of individuals and teams on hand to show support and help raise funds and awareness around Melanoma.
The 4km walk and 8km run took place in Princess Park, on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning. Ego spoke with lots of people who participated, and heard many heart breaking stories about friends and family who are currently fighting melanoma and some who had lost their fight with the cancer.
Team Rocky were one of the larger teams that showed their support on the day, sporting a wonderfully designed t-shirt in tribute to Peter Luscombe.
We spoke with many of the team participants and wife Robyn about why they had come along on the morning to walk and we were honoured to get to know a bit about Peter’s life, family and friends.
Peter was first diagnosed with Melanoma in 2011 and after having it removed he was symptom free for a number of years. It was through his love of rock climbing that Peter got his nickname Rocky, a talented artist and family man Rocky had a fall in January 2015 when he was rock climbing. The accident saw him going to hospital for X-rays where it was discovered that the melanoma had taken hold in his lungs and brain. After a short fight Peter passed away in January 2016 at age 53.
His Wife Robyn and 21 year old daughter continue to support Melanoma research and awareness with this year marking team Rocky’s 3rd Melanoma March. Team Rocky were possibly the largest team on the day with around 80 participants.
